CAMBRIDGE DEBATE JUNIOR STUDENTS 2025

RULES

All public or private institutes and schools which have been enrolled before February 28th, 2025 can participate in the Junior Students Debate. The levels that may participate are 1st and 2nd of E.S.O.

Each participating centre has to make a video no more than five minutes long, where 3 students have to take part, about one of the following themes:

  • Create a book trailer - Instead of a traditional book report, students will have the opportunity to think creatively and share a story.

  • Fast food or locally produced food:  Which has a lower CO2 footprint?

  • Re-create a moment in history - Have students research and recreate major moments in history.

  • Make a “how-to” video – students can practice their informative writing skills by making short videos that explain how to bake a cake, ride a skateboard or shoot a soccer goal.

  • Tour our school - A student-led tour of their school, from the cafeteria to the library to the front office.

  • Living in the city versus living in the countryside.

  • Education in the future.

  • What we do in our free time and what our grandparents did.

These videos have to be sent before Friday March 7th, to this  tortosaenglishfest@gmail.com

A jury will evaluate the work on the basis of criteria that will be given at the time of registration and it will be given a score.

This score will be added to the test that will be held on March 17th at the URV. The teams representing these centres, with 3 students per team, will move on to the second phase, which will consist of two elimination tests. It will take place during the morning of March 14h in the classrooms of the University Rovira i Virgili, Terres de l'Ebre Campus.

This second phase will consist of writing a dialogue among the 3 members of each team on various everyday situations that will be facilitated at the beginning of the activity. A jury will evaluate the corresponding dialogues, following a set criteria, and after evaluating all the tasks performed, two teams will be selected who will go through to the final.

The final will be a debate about one of the following themes which will be decided upon in a draw:

  • Students should have daily housework tasks at home.

  • Governments should put a “sugar tax” on products like fizzy drinks.

  • The government must give incentives to prevent climate change.

  • Graffiti on public buildings and transport should be allowed.

  • Mobile phone should not be permitted in schools.

  • Packaging of food products should be legislated. We use too much plastic!
